While Tignes is still in the euphoria of the arrival of the Tour de France, yesterday July 15th, the resort has already set up its beach stadium to welcome the 10th European Beach Soccer League lead by the Cantona brothers and the pros of the Beach Volley. A "beach attitude" atmosphere for this summer.
Tour de France 2007 - Stage's results of Tignes
After a stage full of breakaways, Michael Rasmussen was finally the 1st to cross the finish line, on Sunday July 15th. While the 1st breakaway group started to climb the "Montée d'Hauteville", 15,3 km climb to 4,7% (1 category), Rasmussen, Colom and Arroyo established a convicing lead over the rest of the group. Then, Rasmussen leaped alone to the attack of Tignes, last difficulty of the day (1 category), to finish the stage at 5.43 pm, after a race of 4h49'40'' long. It's the 3rd victory of the Danish in the Tour de France, who won 4 titles: winner of the stage, yellow jersey of leader, red polka jersey of best climber, prize of the fighting spirit and best team.
For this incredible event, the resort had a wonderful and sunny weather that pleased every of the 45 000 visitors present in the resort. As soon as July 9th, we were already seeing amateurs and passionate fans installing their caravans on the side of Tignes'road. Everything was implemented by the resort of Tignes to make this event a success, such as a logo of Tignes of 3-metres long floating on the lake. Monday 16th, the day of rest for all the athletes of the Tour allowed numbers of spectators coming from Europe, to see the racing teams preparing the bike for the next stage that started this morning from Val d'Isère. Lots of souvenirs and pictures for everybody ! Of course, the resort hopes to welcome again a stage of the Tour de France in the near future!
Exhibition of « les Bleus » (the French Football Team) - 10 years of passion!
Already 10 years that "les Bleus" came for the 1st time in Tignes. The love story between the resort and the French players started in 1997 for Christmas, when the French football team came in Tignes in order to prepare the Football World Cup 1998. 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2006 made Tignes the official resort in high altitude for the physical training of the French football team. To celebrate this close relation, Tignes and the French Football Federation wanted to organise an exhibition relating the epic of "les Bleus". On July 16th, to inaugurate it, the big boss of the group, Raymond Domenech, wasn't able to honour us by his presence because of an advanced pre-paternity. The French Football Team representative, Bruno Martini, pleased us with his thanks and his wishes to come back again in Tignes for a physical training with "les Bleus". The exhibition is officially open from July 18th to August 31st, at Tignespace. It gathers photos, newspaper articles and extracts of TV news of their stage (and some great short stories like the descent in sledge of Aimé Jacquet from the glacier of the Grande Motte after the victory of his team in 1998), the movie "les Bleus à Tignes" relating the ascent of the Grande Motte, and some objects and jerseys of those great athletes. The exhibition is open everyday from 4 to 7 pm, except Saturday.
Open since July 1st 2007, the new Bike Park is ready to welcome bikers. The great job done by the bike patrol allowed the site to be ready for the opening despite of the bad weather conditions. The site is composed by:
- on Palafour area: 2 downhills runs (1 blue and 1 green), 6 endurance trails
- on Toviere area: 4 downhills runs (1 black, 1 red, 1 blue and 1 green), 2 endurance trails
This year, the freeride areas, composed of jumps and footbridges, are more impressive. And like every year, you can find the famous beginners' areas: four cross, dirt area, skate park and water jump.
Once a year, winter and summer meet at the same in Tignes. Between an altitude of 2000 and 3000 metres, the white snow of the glacier flirts with the green grass of the golf. This event allows amateurs to meet professional in a ski / golf atmosphere. On July 21st and 22nd 2007, about forty teams will confront each other, the first day on a giant slalom on the glacier, and the second one on the 18 holes of the golf. Spectators are of course allowed to assist to the competition in dedicated places. Reminder of the rules: 1 pro in ski + 1 pro in golf + 2 amateurs. Lot of famous professionals are already in the starting blocks, to succeed to François Lecomte and Jimmy Peria, the winner team of last year. In golf: Olivier Chabaud, Laurent Balestro, Virginie Lagoutte, Anne-Lyse Caudal, Clément Sebastien. In ski : Sébastien Amiez, Yves Dimier, Pierre Emmanuel Dalcin, Enak Gavaggio, Yohann Claret. The prize-giving will take place at the Montana hotel, on July 22nd at 8 pm.
This year, let's meet on July 27th, 28th and 29th at "Tignes Plage", on the lakeside. For the Cantona's fans, the brothers will be present from July 25th in the resort, the occasion to see them at the supermarket or the bakery. In order to be accessible to everybody, entries to the Beach Soccer stadium are free. Matches will start from 3 pm on Friday, from 2 pm on Saturday and from 1.30 pm on Sunday. The stage in Tignes will be broadcasted live on Eurosport 2. Which team will succeed to Poland, winner of last year's final against Spain? Teams participating to the competition are already known:
- France
- Italy
- Spain
- Portugal
- Czech Republic
- Russia
- Poland
- Switzerland
Keep an eye on the first 4 teams, favourites of this year. To meet the football players, or get an autograph, stay around the stadium especially on mornings, or where get a pick of them around the Montana hotel where they will be staying.
To finish this summer full of beach events, the 10th French Beach Volley Championship will take in Tignes on August 11th and 12th 2007, in the same stadium as the Beach Soccer, and for the 1st time in Tignes history. Matches will start from 9 am to 7 pm. To meet these volleyball players (men and women!), don't hesitate to wait around the stadium, before and after matches. Like for the Beach Soccer, entries are free and matches, men and women finals, will be broadcasted several times on Sport + on Monday 13th.
